Sonnets 399: When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?

-George Carlin spends a lot of time pondering the universe. For example, he worries about the gloves that deli sandwich makers now use. Where have they been and who wants latex on his sandwich? He wonders, too, about the PC police who refer to ugly people as “people with severe appearance deficits.” And why do they lock the public bathrooms at gas stations? Are they afraid that someone will clean them? In When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?, Carlin probes life’s deeper mysteries and emerges with many answers and very dirty hands.

Kawasaki Disease

Kawasaki disease (KD), also known as Kawasaki syndromelymph node syndrome and Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, is an autoimmune disease that manifests as a systemic necrotizing medium-sized vessel vasculitis and is largely seen in children under 5 years of age. It affects many organ systems, mainly those including the blood vessels, skin, mucous membranes and lymph nodes; however, its most serious effect is on the heart where it can cause severe coronary artery aneurysms in untreated children. Without treatment, mortality may approach 1%, usually within 6 weeks of onset. With treatment, the mortality rate is less than 0.01% in the U.S. There is often a pre-existing viral infection that may play a role in its pathogenesis. The conjunctival and oral mucosa, along with the epidermis (skin), become erythematous (red and inflamed). Edema is often seen in the hands and feet and the cervical lymph nodes are often enlarged. Also, a remittant fever, often 40℃ (104°F) or higher, is characteristic of the acute phase of the disease. In untreated children, the febrile period lasts on average approximately ten days, but may range from 5 to 25 days.[4] The disorder was first described in 1967 by Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki in Japan.

Shubarugo

Shubarugo’s head sports a feature quite resembling the red horsehair crest of a knight’s helmet, with a visor underneath it. The shoulders of Shubarugo have large, round metal ridges, from which its thin black arms extend. The arms are tipped with red-striped jousting-lance like protrusions. Shubarugo’s face and torso are bare of armor, but its lower body is concealed within a swirled gray shell with a red spike on the underside, which is presumably the shell of a Chobomaki.

Shubarugo has the highest Attack of all Bug-type Pokémon, and it is tied with Metagross and Doryuzu for highest Attack of all Steel-type Pokémon.

Because it now sports armor, its Defense and Special Defense are very high compared to those of its pre-evolved form. However, this also means that it has become laggard, reducing its Speed.

Shubarugo is based on a jousting knight. It is also slightly based on a cuirass.

Shubarugo’s name probably derives from “chevalier” and “escargot”, knight and snail in French, respectively.

Glee: The Music – The Christmas Album

One of this album’s many joyous highlights is the awesome cover of Frank Loesser’s “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” – an endearingly sweet duet performed by Chris Colfer’s character Kurt and his openly gay love interest Blaine (played by Darren Criss). Another change here is that Rachel (Lea Michele) steps a bit out of the spotlight to let the other cast members shine more (though her breathy take on the Carpenters’ “Merry Christmas Darling” is quite charming). Amber Riley’s Mercedes gives “Angels We Have Heard On High” a joyously soulful R&B makeover with beautiful backing gospel singers and a command solo performance. The kids also give “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” a splash of Broadway inspired pizzazz, while the more traditional “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” reveals that they can easily hold their own as an a cappella act.

Sonnets 395: A Thousand Splendid Suns

-Civil War message in a bottle decoded.

In this Jan. 14, 2009 image shows a Civil War bottle with a message that was tucked inside at the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Va. The message to Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton says reinforcements will not be arriving. The encrypted dispatch was dated July 4, 1863 — the date of Pemberton’s surrender to Union forces led by Ulysses S. Grant in what historians say was a turning point in the war.
